Rejection Happens.

Slap in the face. Kick in the teeth. Cold shoulder. Rejection is visceral. No matter how the rebuff is delivered, it hurts. Sometimes it even breaks our heart.

Regardless of genre, rejection is something most writers have in common. If we’re putting ourselves and our work out there, it’s inevitable. Even when we know it’s a numbers game, even when we understand it’s an inescapable part of the business of writing, rejection flat out sucks.

Rejections Anonymous is here to remind you rejection is not a reflection (a rhyme!) of self-worth. We’re here for creative commiseration. We’ve been there. We are there. We get the disappointment, the discouragement, the demoralization.

Whether you’re querying your book to literary agents, pitching poems and essays to editors at magazines and journals, or trying to sell a screenplay, we salute you and encourage you to use rejection to motivate instead of devastate.

Put yourself out there. Continue writing. Keep submitting. It only takes one “yes” for your project to become a reality.

Please share your rejections with us! Perhaps you received a “no thanks” that was rude or mean-spirited or perplexing or downright smug. Or maybe you’ve been ghosted by an editor or agent when you thought you had a relationship. Maybe you received a harsh rejection that motivated or taught you something. We want to hear about that, too! You (and the offenders) will remain anonymous. We’ll post your rejections on Instagram and here on the Rejections Anonymous website, so keep ‘em coming…

…and keep your chin up.
